Narrative:

Approaching lax for runway 24L, we were kept slightly high to pass over an aircraft on a visual approach to runway 24R. When we were assured of clearance from, and visual contact with, the other aircraft, we were given a visual to runway 24L. While making sure we kept good visual separation from the other aircraft, our attention was drawn away from airspeed control and our airspeed was still fast at the 500 ft point -- although at touchdown, speed was normal. In hindsight, it would have been much more comfortable to discontinue the approach and come back for another, more stabilized approach.
