Narrative:

Current operators procedures require captain to monitor ground interphone only on pushback. First officer communicates with FAA only. First officer advised ground control that we were pushing back since numerous gates at mia only require an advisory. Unfortunately, this gate required a clearance from ground control prior to push. I, as captain, informed the push crew we were cleared to push without listening to the radio, nor checking the book to back up the first officer. Solution: disregard SOP and listen to FAA during push and captain's confirmation procedures in book to back up first officer. Supplemental information from acn 481700: I advised mia ground just as we pushed, but received no reply. I advised mia ground later during the pushback and his reply was 'I see that.' just then, captain stated that clearance is required and I realized we were at a gate that requires a pushback clearance.

Title: ACR PUSHES BACK WITHOUT CLRNC FROM GATE AT MIA, FL. CONFUSION AS TO WHEN ADVISORY OR CLRNC IS REQUIRED.

Narrative: CURRENT OPERATORS PROCS REQUIRE CAPT TO MONITOR GND INTERPHONE ONLY ON PUSHBACK. FO COMMUNICATES WITH FAA ONLY. FO ADVISED GND CTL THAT WE WERE PUSHING BACK SINCE NUMEROUS GATES AT MIA ONLY REQUIRE AN ADVISORY. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS GATE REQUIRED A CLRNC FROM GND CTL PRIOR TO PUSH. I, AS CAPT, INFORMED THE PUSH CREW WE WERE CLRED TO PUSH WITHOUT LISTENING TO THE RADIO, NOR CHKING THE BOOK TO BACK UP THE FO. SOLUTION: DISREGARD SOP AND LISTEN TO FAA DURING PUSH AND CAPT'S CONFIRMATION PROCS IN BOOK TO BACK UP FO. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 481700: I ADVISED MIA GND JUST AS WE PUSHED, BUT RECEIVED NO REPLY. I ADVISED MIA GND LATER DURING THE PUSHBACK AND HIS REPLY WAS 'I SEE THAT.' JUST THEN, CAPT STATED THAT CLRNC IS REQUIRED AND I REALIZED WE WERE AT A GATE THAT REQUIRES A PUSHBACK CLRNC.
