Narrative:

We were at level cruise flight at 16000 ft MSL. #2 ahrs failed. We performed ahrs failure checklist per aom. Flight attendant called and advised me of very strong noxious fumes in cabin. I declared an emergency with ZHU. I diverted to sat. I requested crash fire rescue equipment. We landed safely. We deplaned passenger via stairs. No injuries reported. Crash fire rescue equipment personnel inspected aircraft. Crash fire rescue equipment personnel told me of no fire or smoke, but strong noxious fumes in lavatory. Air carrier maintenance inspected ahrs unit. Maintenance confirmed noxious fumes coming from ahrs unit. Maintenance replaced ahrs unit. Ahrs worked properly. Ferried aircraft to ZZZ.
