Narrative:

ATC instructed me (my aircraft) to taxi (runway 26 intersection taxiway P) hold short runway 26 at taxiway P. I continued across hold short lines and stopped aircraft approximately 10 ft past hold short lines. Contributing factors were a non flying passenger occupying the front right seat (distraction). Also, unfamiliar with the airport -- it was my first time into this airport in a small GA aircraft. In addition, stopping short of runway 26 at taxiway P places the aircraft on a long parallel taxiway south. I did not like being stopped on an active taxiway and remembered that I wanted to taxi past this taxiway to stop and perform the run-up. I did not want to perform a run-up on an active taxiway. Possible improvements to prevent these type deviations in the future: 1) more oversight by ground control. They are paid to help unfamiliar pilots. 2) a more specific area to run-up the aircraft, rather than on an active taxiway. I should have requested 'full length' (no intersection departures). 3) better signage and runway markings. It was hard to see over the nose of the aircraft to see the hold short bars. One must look out to the side of a GA aircraft, why not paint warning stripes (like crosswalks, before an intersection) or put ridges or speed bumps in the pavement to vibrate the wheels a bit while taxiing to alert the PIC that the hold short lines are coming up. It seems the hold short lines are visibly painted for the view from a B757/B767 or other transport cockpit with a few ft of ht.

Title: RWY INCURSION BY GA ACFT.

Narrative: ATC INSTRUCTED ME (MY ACFT) TO TAXI (RWY 26 INTXN TXWY P) HOLD SHORT RWY 26 AT TXWY P. I CONTINUED ACROSS HOLD SHORT LINES AND STOPPED ACFT APPROX 10 FT PAST HOLD SHORT LINES. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE A NON FLYING PAX OCCUPYING THE FRONT R SEAT (DISTR). ALSO, UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT -- IT WAS MY FIRST TIME INTO THIS ARPT IN A SMALL GA ACFT. IN ADDITION, STOPPING SHORT OF RWY 26 AT TXWY P PLACES THE ACFT ON A LONG PARALLEL TXWY S. I DID NOT LIKE BEING STOPPED ON AN ACTIVE TXWY AND REMEMBERED THAT I WANTED TO TAXI PAST THIS TXWY TO STOP AND PERFORM THE RUN-UP. I DID NOT WANT TO PERFORM A RUN-UP ON AN ACTIVE TXWY. POSSIBLE IMPROVEMENTS TO PREVENT THESE TYPE DEVS IN THE FUTURE: 1) MORE OVERSIGHT BY GND CTL. THEY ARE PAID TO HELP UNFAMILIAR PLTS. 2) A MORE SPECIFIC AREA TO RUN-UP THE ACFT, RATHER THAN ON AN ACTIVE TXWY. I SHOULD HAVE REQUESTED 'FULL LENGTH' (NO INTXN DEPS). 3) BETTER SIGNAGE AND RWY MARKINGS. IT WAS HARD TO SEE OVER THE NOSE OF THE ACFT TO SEE THE HOLD SHORT BARS. ONE MUST LOOK OUT TO THE SIDE OF A GA ACFT, WHY NOT PAINT WARNING STRIPES (LIKE CROSSWALKS, BEFORE AN INTXN) OR PUT RIDGES OR SPD BUMPS IN THE PAVEMENT TO VIBRATE THE WHEELS A BIT WHILE TAXIING TO ALERT THE PIC THAT THE HOLD SHORT LINES ARE COMING UP. IT SEEMS THE HOLD SHORT LINES ARE VISIBLY PAINTED FOR THE VIEW FROM A B757/B767 OR OTHER TRANSPORT COCKPIT WITH A FEW FT OF HT.
