Narrative:

We were cleared via the westchester one departure. After turning west we were cleared to an intermediate altitude and then to 7000 ft. I set the altitude alerter to 7000 ft and confirmed armed and vertical speed on both flight directors. The alerter sounded and I confirmed 'one to go.' we then got a heading change, TCASII TA and controller advisory all about the same time. After changing my heading bug and looking out to find the traffic, I saw we were climbing through our assigned altitude. I pointed to the altitude selected and said '7000 ft assigned' simultaneously. The captain retarded the power and descended to 7000 ft as rapidly as possible. The controller asked our altitude, which was then back to 7000 ft. This captain likes to fly fast, particularly in the vertical mode. We were on a short flight and at a light weight, which gave this aircraft great climb capability. The PF increased his already aggressive climb when we got the TCASII TA, which was unnecessary with less than 1000 ft to go. Contributing factors were a mistake in the dispatch process, our passenger showed up 1 hour earlier than shown, and a new flight hostess who had minimal charter experience didn't get her galley properly catered, and made several trips to the cockpit to ask if we knew where things were. Next time I will be more assertive about pointing out vertical speed and keeping a better balance between situational awareness and looking for traffic. I'll also try to slow up the pace so we don't feel so rushed.

Title: ALT OVERSHOOT W OF WHITE PLAINS, NY.

THE CTLR ASKED OUR ALT, WHICH WAS THEN BACK TO 7000 FT. THIS CAPT LIKES TO FLY FAST, PARTICULARLY IN THE VERT MODE. WE WERE ON A SHORT FLT AND AT A LIGHT WT, WHICH GAVE THIS ACFT GREAT CLB CAPABILITY. NEXT TIME I WILL BE MORE ASSERTIVE ABOUT POINTING OUT VERT SPD AND KEEPING A BETTER BAL BTWN SITUATIONAL AWARENESS AND LOOKING FOR TFC. I'LL ALSO TRY TO SLOW UP THE PACE SO WE DON'T FEEL SO RUSHED.
