Narrative:

I was the captain and PNF on taxi out to runway 12R at hou. While holding for departure at runway 12R the tower controller suddenly asked if we could take runway 17. Being unfamiliar and somewhat rushed the PF taxied onto runway 12R briefly then onto runway 17 instead of taxiing across runway 12R and to runway 17 via taxiway as instructed. Contributing to the incident was the fact that the crew was unfamiliar with hou, darkness and poor signage. In the future I would prefer to accept the original runway assignment rather than be rushed into making another serious mistake.

Title: A C500 CITATION JET TAXIES ONTO RWY 17 AND DOES NOT CLR THE RWY WHEN ADVISED TO TAXI VIA THE TXWY, NOT PAUSING ON THE RWY AT HOU, TX.

Narrative: I WAS THE CAPT AND PNF ON TAXI OUT TO RWY 12R AT HOU. WHILE HOLDING FOR DEP AT RWY 12R THE TWR CTLR SUDDENLY ASKED IF WE COULD TAKE RWY 17. BEING UNFAMILIAR AND SOMEWHAT RUSHED THE PF TAXIED ONTO RWY 12R BRIEFLY THEN ONTO RWY 17 INSTEAD OF TAXIING ACROSS RWY 12R AND TO RWY 17 VIA TXWY AS INSTRUCTED. CONTRIBUTING TO THE INCIDENT WAS THE FACT THAT THE CREW WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH HOU, DARKNESS AND POOR SIGNAGE. IN THE FUTURE I WOULD PREFER TO ACCEPT THE ORIGINAL RWY ASSIGNMENT RATHER THAN BE RUSHED INTO MAKING ANOTHER SERIOUS MISTAKE.
