Narrative:
I was doing a compassion flight from new england. Vacuum pump failed in IMC. Albany approach provided no gyroscope approach to ILS runway 1 at alb. The approach was successful. ATC did an excellent job. Declaring an emergency early in the process was the best decision I made.
