Narrative:

While in descent from FL290 and passing FL270, cabin altitude started climbing with the power at idle and a cabin rate of climb of 1500 FPM. Passing FL270 the cabin rate of climb increased to maximum. Was unable to control cabin altitude manually. Flight crew donned oxygen masks in descent and requested an immediate lower altitude of 10000 ft. Due to a pressurization problem, was given a descent to FL180. Passing FL220, declared an emergency and requested 10000 ft again. Was cleared to 10000 ft. While passing 15000 ft, cabin altitude reached 12000 ft and we were able to control the cabin altitude at that point. Initiated normal flight at 10000 ft. Discovered from flight attendants the aft galley door (2L) seal had blown.

Title: AN MD80 ON DSCNT AT FL270 DECLARED AN EMER AND DSNDED TO 10000 FT DUE TO LOSS OF CABIN PRESSURE CAUSED BY A FAILED AFT CABIN DOOR SEAL.

Narrative: WHILE IN DSCNT FROM FL290 AND PASSING FL270, CABIN ALT STARTED CLBING WITH THE PWR AT IDLE AND A CABIN RATE OF CLB OF 1500 FPM. PASSING FL270 THE CABIN RATE OF CLB INCREASED TO MAX. WAS UNABLE TO CTL CABIN ALT MANUALLY. FLC DONNED OXYGEN MASKS IN DSCNT AND REQUESTED AN IMMEDIATE LOWER ALT OF 10000 FT. DUE TO A PRESSURIZATION PROB, WAS GIVEN A DSCNT TO FL180. PASSING FL220, DECLARED AN EMER AND REQUESTED 10000 FT AGAIN. WAS CLRED TO 10000 FT. WHILE PASSING 15000 FT, CABIN ALT REACHED 12000 FT AND WE WERE ABLE TO CTL THE CABIN ALT AT THAT POINT. INITIATED NORMAL FLT AT 10000 FT. DISCOVERED FROM FLT ATTENDANTS THE AFT GALLEY DOOR (2L) SEAL HAD BLOWN.
