Narrative:

I had called for and received an IFR clearance from sus direct jwn and was given taxi clearance to runway 26R sus. The tower told me to do run-up and hold short. I was then told to taxi in position and hold runway 26R. I was then told to turn left heading 210 degrees, cleared for takeoff runway 26R. I read the clearance back and took off. At about 400 ft AGL, I began a left turn to runway 210. Within a few seconds the tower controller asked why I was not on a runway heading (260 degrees). I stated that I was told to turn left to 210 degrees and that I had read that back. There was a pause and the controller said there was a last min change. We were soon handed off to sus approach and I said I wanted to make sure that I had made no mistake in my procedures. I can only assume that sus approach said sus tower had been talking on the interphone line and that the change to runway heading was not conveyed to me prior to the issuance of my takeoff clearance. I did what my clearance told me to do and turned right to 260 degrees rapidly after receiving the amended clearance.

Title: TWR CTLR ISSUED CLRNC FOR TKOF WITH A L TURN. HOWEVER, WHEN PLT OF A C182 TURNED L AFTER TKOF, TWR CTLR ALERTED PLT THAT HE SHOULD BE MAINTAINING RWY HDG.

Narrative: I HAD CALLED FOR AND RECEIVED AN IFR CLRNC FROM SUS DIRECT JWN AND WAS GIVEN TAXI CLRNC TO RWY 26R SUS. THE TWR TOLD ME TO DO RUN-UP AND HOLD SHORT. I WAS THEN TOLD TO TAXI IN POS AND HOLD RWY 26R. I WAS THEN TOLD TO TURN L HDG 210 DEGS, CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 26R. I READ THE CLRNC BACK AND TOOK OFF. AT ABOUT 400 FT AGL, I BEGAN A L TURN TO RWY 210. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS THE TWR CTLR ASKED WHY I WAS NOT ON A RWY HDG (260 DEGS). I STATED THAT I WAS TOLD TO TURN L TO 210 DEGS AND THAT I HAD READ THAT BACK. THERE WAS A PAUSE AND THE CTLR SAID THERE WAS A LAST MIN CHANGE. WE WERE SOON HANDED OFF TO SUS APCH AND I SAID I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT I HAD MADE NO MISTAKE IN MY PROCS. I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT SUS APCH SAID SUS TWR HAD BEEN TALKING ON THE INTERPHONE LINE AND THAT THE CHANGE TO RWY HDG WAS NOT CONVEYED TO ME PRIOR TO THE ISSUANCE OF MY TKOF CLRNC. I DID WHAT MY CLRNC TOLD ME TO DO AND TURNED R TO 260 DEGS RAPIDLY AFTER RECEIVING THE AMENDED CLRNC.
