Narrative:

On may/xa/00 at XA30, I called ground at stuart airport (sua) and asked to taxi to the active. I was cleared to taxi to runway 12 from FBO. I taxied to the end of the taxiway parallel to runway 12. Then asked to do my run-up in a paved area just to the left of the taxiway. I was given permission, did my run-up, and then crossed the hold short line believing it was only for runway 7 and that I would then arrive for a hold short line for runway 12. I believed this because the intersection showed a mandatory sign for both runway 7 and runway 12 co-located with a location sign for runway 7. The location sign co-located with the mandatory signs led me to believe I was crossing runway 7 to get to runway 12 (the runway I was cleared to). As it turned out, the exact opposite was true. Once I realized where I was, I immediately called tower and received permission to take off. I believe to clarify this, the location sign should be changed to a direction sign.

Title: PVT PLT OF AN SEL SMA OVERSHOT THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR THE RWY TO WHICH HE WAS CLRED DUE TO THE CONFUSION OF THE HOLD SHORT LINES FOR INTERSECTING RWYS BEING CO-LOCATED.

Narrative: ON MAY/XA/00 AT XA30, I CALLED GND AT STUART ARPT (SUA) AND ASKED TO TAXI TO THE ACTIVE. I WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 12 FROM FBO. I TAXIED TO THE END OF THE TXWY PARALLEL TO RWY 12. THEN ASKED TO DO MY RUN-UP IN A PAVED AREA JUST TO THE L OF THE TXWY. I WAS GIVEN PERMISSION, DID MY RUN-UP, AND THEN CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE BELIEVING IT WAS ONLY FOR RWY 7 AND THAT I WOULD THEN ARRIVE FOR A HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 12. I BELIEVED THIS BECAUSE THE INTXN SHOWED A MANDATORY SIGN FOR BOTH RWY 7 AND RWY 12 CO-LOCATED WITH A LOCATION SIGN FOR RWY 7. THE LOCATION SIGN CO-LOCATED WITH THE MANDATORY SIGNS LED ME TO BELIEVE I WAS XING RWY 7 TO GET TO RWY 12 (THE RWY I WAS CLRED TO). AS IT TURNED OUT, THE EXACT OPPOSITE WAS TRUE. ONCE I REALIZED WHERE I WAS, I IMMEDIATELY CALLED TWR AND RECEIVED PERMISSION TO TAKE OFF. I BELIEVE TO CLARIFY THIS, THE LOCATION SIGN SHOULD BE CHANGED TO A DIRECTION SIGN.
