Narrative:
While taxiing into our gate at lax, our gate was occupied so we were told by ground to hold short of the alley on the inner taxiway until our gate was open. We stopped on the inner taxiway. Our gate was changed from X to Y. This gate was open and we were right next to it. I turned the aircraft into the gate area prior to ground clearance. The ground called and we said our gate had changed and was open. They came back with 'ok.' I should have contacted ground prior to aircraft movement.

Title: FLC OF AN MLG TURNED INTO GATE FOR PARKING WITHOUT CLRNC AFTER HOLDING ON TXWY FOR GATE OPENING.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING INTO OUR GATE AT LAX, OUR GATE WAS OCCUPIED SO WE WERE TOLD BY GND TO HOLD SHORT OF THE ALLEY ON THE INNER TXWY UNTIL OUR GATE WAS OPEN. WE STOPPED ON THE INNER TXWY. OUR GATE WAS CHANGED FROM X TO Y. THIS GATE WAS OPEN AND WE WERE RIGHT NEXT TO IT. I TURNED THE ACFT INTO THE GATE AREA PRIOR TO GND CLRNC. THE GND CALLED AND WE SAID OUR GATE HAD CHANGED AND WAS OPEN. THEY CAME BACK WITH 'OK.' I SHOULD HAVE CONTACTED GND PRIOR TO ACFT MOVEMENT.
