Narrative:

Birdstrike on #1 (left) engine at rotation during takeoff. During rotation captain noticed bird (or birds) pass by left window. #1 engine immediately started loud vibration, ECAM engine page showed N1 vibration at 3.0 and N2 vibration at 0.2. Reduced thrust and N1 vibration decreased to 1.1. When power reapplied it again went to 3.0. Declared emergency with mem departure control and completed precautionary shutdown. Returned to land memphis runway 18L. Radar was on throughout takeoff roll until after landing. No serious consideration given to bird threat.
