Narrative:

On approach to lga we asked to do a left 360 degree turn on final for spacing. The radio was busy and ATC heard just 'left turn' and thought an s-turn was what we wanted. After hearing a landing clearance for the traffic behind us given, we asked to clarify what ATC want us to do. Now we are all on the same page and spacing was appropriate and all turned out well.
