Narrative:

On a flight from keen, nh, to lexington, ky, I apparently miscopied a clearance which should have read d-sparta J6 charleston d-lexington. When I copied I wrote d-sparta d-charleston J6 lex. After crossing sparta, the controller asked why I was not on J6. I immediately recognized my mistake and asked for vectors to J6. When I couldn't immediately find J6, I mentioned I didn't have my high altitude chart. What I meant was it was not immediately in front of me. I did have my charts handy and was able to get back on course. Further communications made it obvious that the controllers assumed that I did not have my charts. In fact, I had both hi and lo charts on the seat next to me. I have learned some valuable lessons from this event. First, if I had looked ahead to properly evaluate my clearance, I would have seen my copy error. Second, if I had kept my charts right in front of me and had been following my progress on the charts in addition to the GPS, this event would not have taken place.

Narrative: ON A FLT FROM KEEN, NH, TO LEXINGTON, KY, I APPARENTLY MISCOPIED A CLRNC WHICH SHOULD HAVE READ D-SPARTA J6 CHARLESTON D-LEXINGTON. WHEN I COPIED I WROTE D-SPARTA D-CHARLESTON J6 LEX. AFTER XING SPARTA, THE CTLR ASKED WHY I WAS NOT ON J6. I IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED MY MISTAKE AND ASKED FOR VECTORS TO J6. WHEN I COULDN'T IMMEDIATELY FIND J6, I MENTIONED I DIDN'T HAVE MY HIGH ALT CHART. WHAT I MEANT WAS IT WAS NOT IMMEDIATELY IN FRONT OF ME. I DID HAVE MY CHARTS HANDY AND WAS ABLE TO GET BACK ON COURSE. FURTHER COMS MADE IT OBVIOUS THAT THE CTLRS ASSUMED THAT I DID NOT HAVE MY CHARTS. IN FACT, I HAD BOTH HI AND LO CHARTS ON THE SEAT NEXT TO ME. I HAVE LEARNED SOME VALUABLE LESSONS FROM THIS EVENT. FIRST, IF I HAD LOOKED AHEAD TO PROPERLY EVALUATE MY CLRNC, I WOULD HAVE SEEN MY COPY ERROR. SECOND, IF I HAD KEPT MY CHARTS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AND HAD BEEN FOLLOWING MY PROGRESS ON THE CHARTS IN ADDITION TO THE GPS, THIS EVENT WOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN PLACE.
