Narrative:

We had been flying in and out of cvg most of our 3-DAY rotation. It becomes easy to figure out the aircraft you follow once you become familiar with the approach control frequencys. I was sure of the aircraft we were following, and had been setting in the next frequency to approach control on our dual head radio. Apparently just prior to being told to intercept the localizer, I unconsciously flipped the switch to tower. I was flying the aircraft and as soon as we passed through the localizer I asked the copilot to ask if we could expect a turn back to final, as approach sometimes gives a late turn on. I was shocked when told we were on tower frequency. We went back to approach, he turned us back to the localizer and sent us back to tower. After a humble apology from me, approach said there were no problems or conflicts. I should keep my hands off the radio while I am the pilot flying the aircraft.

Title: ACR CREW CHANGES FREQ TOO SOON ON APCH TO CVG, OH. RESULT WAS A MISSED TURN ONTO THE ILS.

Narrative: WE HAD BEEN FLYING IN AND OUT OF CVG MOST OF OUR 3-DAY ROTATION. IT BECOMES EASY TO FIGURE OUT THE ACFT YOU FOLLOW ONCE YOU BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE APCH CTL FREQS. I WAS SURE OF THE ACFT WE WERE FOLLOWING, AND HAD BEEN SETTING IN THE NEXT FREQ TO APCH CTL ON OUR DUAL HEAD RADIO. APPARENTLY JUST PRIOR TO BEING TOLD TO INTERCEPT THE LOC, I UNCONSCIOUSLY FLIPPED THE SWITCH TO TWR. I WAS FLYING THE ACFT AND AS SOON AS WE PASSED THROUGH THE LOC I ASKED THE COPLT TO ASK IF WE COULD EXPECT A TURN BACK TO FINAL, AS APCH SOMETIMES GIVES A LATE TURN ON. I WAS SHOCKED WHEN TOLD WE WERE ON TWR FREQ. WE WENT BACK TO APCH, HE TURNED US BACK TO THE LOC AND SENT US BACK TO TWR. AFTER A HUMBLE APOLOGY FROM ME, APCH SAID THERE WERE NO PROBS OR CONFLICTS. I SHOULD KEEP MY HANDS OFF THE RADIO WHILE I AM THE PLT FLYING THE ACFT.
