Narrative:

Upon switching from approach to tower frequency, lost communication -- suspected stuck microphone. Banged on cockpit microphone, reset headset, switched radios, switched back to approach -- all to no avail. Spent too long troubleshooting radio. Found myself at 500 ft on short final without landing checklist complete. High and fast at sna, decided to go around just as tower gave us the green light. Upon safe climb out, found hand microphone stuck in clip. When unstuck, lost communication condition cleared and contacted tower and approach for return to sna. In retrospect, I spent too long trying to establish communication. Had I completed checklist and looked for green light, we could have landed successfully and cleared microphone problem on ground.

Title: ACR LOST COM ON FINAL APCH TO SNA, CA. AFTER TROUBLESHOOTING PROB FLC WAS NOT PREPARED TO LAND SO EXECUTED A GAR.

Narrative: UPON SWITCHING FROM APCH TO TWR FREQ, LOST COM -- SUSPECTED STUCK MIKE. BANGED ON COCKPIT MIKE, RESET HEADSET, SWITCHED RADIOS, SWITCHED BACK TO APCH -- ALL TO NO AVAIL. SPENT TOO LONG TROUBLESHOOTING RADIO. FOUND MYSELF AT 500 FT ON SHORT FINAL WITHOUT LNDG CHKLIST COMPLETE. HIGH AND FAST AT SNA, DECIDED TO GO AROUND JUST AS TWR GAVE US THE GREEN LIGHT. UPON SAFE CLBOUT, FOUND HAND MIKE STUCK IN CLIP. WHEN UNSTUCK, LOST COM CONDITION CLRED AND CONTACTED TWR AND APCH FOR RETURN TO SNA. IN RETROSPECT, I SPENT TOO LONG TRYING TO ESTABLISH COM. HAD I COMPLETED CHKLIST AND LOOKED FOR GREEN LIGHT, WE COULD HAVE LANDED SUCCESSFULLY AND CLRED MIKE PROB ON GND.
