Narrative:

During taxi out at stl we were given instructions to taxi to runway 12L via taxiway D and taxiway C to cross runway 12R and hold short of runway 12L. As the nose of the aircraft crosses the hold short line of runway 12R about 6 ft, we were given new instructions to stop immediately. There was a B727 in position on runway 12R but had not been given takeoff instructions because there were aircraft crossing runway 12R down at taxiway right and taxiway south that had landed on runway 12L. There were several aircraft with similar clrncs that had changed several times. This led to some confusion on our part!
