Narrative:

Climb out out of atl to 10000 ft on assigned heading of 270 degrees, we got a TCASII warning at 4500 ft of a traffic conflict. The yellow diamond symbol turned red and issued a command to descend. I discontinued the climb out and instructed the first officer to advise ATC of our actions due to a TCASII resolution. Simultaneously, we got a visual of a light twin propeller as ATC instructed us to maintain 5000 ft and advised us of VFR traffic at 1 O'clock at 5500 ft. The aircraft passed 600 ft above our altitude (TCASII readout) and I estimate directly overhead. TCASII has not been around for all that long, but the folks who invented it certainly have my deepest appreciation.

SIMULTANEOUSLY, WE GOT A VISUAL OF A LIGHT TWIN PROP AS ATC INSTRUCTED US TO MAINTAIN 5000 FT AND ADVISED US OF VFR TFC AT 1 O'CLOCK AT 5500 FT.
