Narrative:

Air carrier B727 ship xyz had mechanical problems on feb/sun/00 at XA00 in ZZZ. The mechanical problem was a power failure to the horizontal stabilizer trim motors. Contract maintenance replaced both trim motors borrowed from air carrier X which did not fix the problem. Air carrier maintenance took over at XE00 on feb/sun/00. Air carrier maintenance replaced the R-29 relay and reinstalled the original stabilizer trim motors following rii inspection requirements. An rii qualified inspector had to be flown in from xx. While maintenance was waiting for the inspector to arrive, a #1 layover was accomplished on the aircraft. During this time, a mechanic noticed a fuel leak from the left wing lower surface tank access plates. The aircraft was delayed due to the fuel leak parts had to be flown in from XXX and xby. I stayed on duty until the aircraft fuel leak and rii inspection were complete. It was not until the aircraft had left the gate while I was reviewing the paperwork that I noticed the #1 layover check had not been properly documented in the aircraft logbook. The inspection had been accomplished and signed by another mechanic, who should have properly documented the layover in the aircraft logbook. I realize that I am responsible for all paperwork when I signed the airworthiness release on the following log sheet.

Title: A B727 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH A LAYOVER CHK ACCOMPLISHED BUT NOT ENTERED IN THE LOGBOOK.

Narrative: ACR B727 SHIP XYZ HAD MECHANICAL PROBS ON FEB/SUN/00 AT XA00 IN ZZZ. THE MECHANICAL PROB WAS A PWR FAILURE TO THE HORIZ STABILIZER TRIM MOTORS. CONTRACT MAINT REPLACED BOTH TRIM MOTORS BORROWED FROM ACR X WHICH DID NOT FIX THE PROB. ACR MAINT TOOK OVER AT XE00 ON FEB/SUN/00. ACR MAINT REPLACED THE R-29 RELAY AND REINSTALLED THE ORIGINAL STABILIZER TRIM MOTORS FOLLOWING RII INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS. AN RII QUALIFIED INSPECTOR HAD TO BE FLOWN IN FROM XX. WHILE MAINT WAS WAITING FOR THE INSPECTOR TO ARRIVE, A #1 LAYOVER WAS ACCOMPLISHED ON THE ACFT. DURING THIS TIME, A MECH NOTICED A FUEL LEAK FROM THE L WING LOWER SURFACE TANK ACCESS PLATES. THE ACFT WAS DELAYED DUE TO THE FUEL LEAK PARTS HAD TO BE FLOWN IN FROM XXX AND XBY. I STAYED ON DUTY UNTIL THE ACFT FUEL LEAK AND RII INSPECTION WERE COMPLETE. IT WAS NOT UNTIL THE ACFT HAD LEFT THE GATE WHILE I WAS REVIEWING THE PAPERWORK THAT I NOTICED THE #1 LAYOVER CHK HAD NOT BEEN PROPERLY DOCUMENTED IN THE ACFT LOGBOOK. THE INSPECTION HAD BEEN ACCOMPLISHED AND SIGNED BY ANOTHER MECH, WHO SHOULD HAVE PROPERLY DOCUMENTED THE LAYOVER IN THE ACFT LOGBOOK. I REALIZE THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL PAPERWORK WHEN I SIGNED THE AIRWORTHINESS RELEASE ON THE FOLLOWING LOG SHEET.
