Narrative:

While flying a visual approach for runway 8 at sju, a landing clearance was issued by tower during a right base. About 3 mi on final, a B767 was cleared for takeoff on runway 8. The first officer mentioned that the aircraft was slow to taxi and so I requested that he ask for runway 10 instead (I was PF). The tower cleared us for landing on runway 10, but after my first officer acknowledged, the controller seemed anxious -- perhaps due to the B767 still positioning on runway 8 -- and our continued turn to final for runway 10. The tower requested acknowledgement of landing clearance again for runway 10 (which confused us), but we landed on runway 10 with clearance and the flight was terminated without further problems. I feel that the controller rushed the B767 to take off, and that he realized this only when he cleared us for landing.

Title: ATR 42 PIC REQUESTS LNDG RWY CHANGE DUE TO DELAYED TKOF OF B767. APPARENT CTLR CONCERN.

Narrative: WHILE FLYING A VISUAL APCH FOR RWY 8 AT SJU, A LNDG CLRNC WAS ISSUED BY TWR DURING A R BASE. ABOUT 3 MI ON FINAL, A B767 WAS CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 8. THE FO MENTIONED THAT THE ACFT WAS SLOW TO TAXI AND SO I REQUESTED THAT HE ASK FOR RWY 10 INSTEAD (I WAS PF). THE TWR CLRED US FOR LNDG ON RWY 10, BUT AFTER MY FO ACKNOWLEDGED, THE CTLR SEEMED ANXIOUS -- PERHAPS DUE TO THE B767 STILL POSITIONING ON RWY 8 -- AND OUR CONTINUED TURN TO FINAL FOR RWY 10. THE TWR REQUESTED ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF LNDG CLRNC AGAIN FOR RWY 10 (WHICH CONFUSED US), BUT WE LANDED ON RWY 10 WITH CLRNC AND THE FLT WAS TERMINATED WITHOUT FURTHER PROBS. I FEEL THAT THE CTLR RUSHED THE B767 TO TAKE OFF, AND THAT HE REALIZED THIS ONLY WHEN HE CLRED US FOR LNDG.
