Narrative:

At approximately XA00 on sun/feb/00, I became aware that I may have violated the far's by misinterpreting the MEL. This aircraft has been refurbished and has no provisions for ashtrays in its lavatories. Thus, its normal compliment of lavatory ashtrays is zero. I deferred one a check 'non-routine' item (generated by a mechanic) for each of the 3 lavatories on the aircraft referencing the MEL general section.

Title: A B727-200 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH NO LAVATORY ASHTRAYS INSTALLED ON THE LAVATORY DOOR IN CONFLICT WITH THE MEL.

Narrative: AT APPROX XA00 ON SUN/FEB/00, I BECAME AWARE THAT I MAY HAVE VIOLATED THE FAR'S BY MISINTERPRETING THE MEL. THIS ACFT HAS BEEN REFURBISHED AND HAS NO PROVISIONS FOR ASHTRAYS IN ITS LAVATORIES. THUS, ITS NORMAL COMPLIMENT OF LAVATORY ASHTRAYS IS ZERO. I DEFERRED ONE A CHK 'NON-ROUTINE' ITEM (GENERATED BY A MECH) FOR EACH OF THE 3 LAVATORIES ON THE ACFT REFING THE MEL GENERAL SECTION.
