Narrative:

Bradley approach had cleared us to maintain 2500 ft and the PF appeared to be having no problems and in control. I was PNF (though my name is on the flight plan as captain) starting to perform the before landing checklist and reviewing the ILS runway 6 at bradley. While my head was down bradley gave us an altitude alert in which I noticed we were through 2500 ft and descending through 2150 ft. I immediately grabbed the controls and got us heading back to 2500 ft and the PF finished the climb. The PF is new to jet flying and although rated in the aircraft does not scan as well as he should and does not get enough time in aircraft to stay sharp. Autoplt was on and altitude arm was selected, although I am not sure, it is common to get an altitude capture light, then roll the pitch wheel which will disconnect the altitude hold feature. As PNF by me performing checks during an altitude change created a situation of 1 pilot perform the change of altitude and 1 pilot inside the cockpit.

Title: WHEN THEIR ALT CAPTURE FAILS TO HALT THE DSCNT A CPR JET FLC OVERSHOOTS THEIR ASSIGNED ALT DURING DSCNT INTO BDL, CT.

Narrative: BRADLEY APCH HAD CLRED US TO MAINTAIN 2500 FT AND THE PF APPEARED TO BE HAVING NO PROBS AND IN CTL. I WAS PNF (THOUGH MY NAME IS ON THE FLT PLAN AS CAPT) STARTING TO PERFORM THE BEFORE LNDG CHKLIST AND REVIEWING THE ILS RWY 6 AT BRADLEY. WHILE MY HEAD WAS DOWN BRADLEY GAVE US AN ALT ALERT IN WHICH I NOTICED WE WERE THROUGH 2500 FT AND DSNDING THROUGH 2150 FT. I IMMEDIATELY GRABBED THE CTLS AND GOT US HEADING BACK TO 2500 FT AND THE PF FINISHED THE CLB. THE PF IS NEW TO JET FLYING AND ALTHOUGH RATED IN THE ACFT DOES NOT SCAN AS WELL AS HE SHOULD AND DOES NOT GET ENOUGH TIME IN ACFT TO STAY SHARP. AUTOPLT WAS ON AND ALT ARM WAS SELECTED, ALTHOUGH I AM NOT SURE, IT IS COMMON TO GET AN ALT CAPTURE LIGHT, THEN ROLL THE PITCH WHEEL WHICH WILL DISCONNECT THE ALT HOLD FEATURE. AS PNF BY ME PERFORMING CHKS DURING AN ALT CHANGE CREATED A SIT OF 1 PLT PERFORM THE CHANGE OF ALT AND 1 PLT INSIDE THE COCKPIT.
