Narrative:

Air carrier X left mdw XA50. I was informed of a navigation light that was deferred 10 mins after the flight took off. The captain took it upon himself to leave mdw and never informed me of the problem. By the time we calculated sundown times, the flight was closer to the destination airport, so he continued on. This problem could have been corrected had the pilot, maintenance and operations notified me (the dispatcher) when the problem occurred and not after the flight left.
