Narrative:

WX was building in the area in the form of thunderstorms. Traffic was light but distrs in the form of non operational conversations averted my usual vigilance on position. Upon departure, the B737 was told to climb to 15000 ft and turn to heading 150 degrees to avoid a buildup. Pilot complied as instructed. My intent was to only climb the B737 to 5000 ft because of arriving FK100 traffic. I went so far as to tell the B737 to expect higher reference to traffic descending out of 8400 ft to 6000 ft. Immediate turns were issued to both aircraft to prevent loss of separation. Contributing factors were my lack of vigilance due to concentration on the numerous involved conversations around and including me. This caused a slower than normal response to the deteriorating situation and my initial error in climbing the B737. Maintain a high level of concentration at all times. All distrs be removed or stopped which affect awareness, concentration, etc.
