Narrative:

I had planned to practice acrobatics. I found that there was light turbulence at the practice area, so I decided not to do acrobatics because I hadn't done any for several months, and I didn't feel confident about dealing with the added complication of turbulence. I decided to fly to 1q4 to practice lndgs instead. On my way to 1q4, I found smooth air at 7000 ft. I thought I was in a safe area, so I did 2 loops. After the second loop I saw an air transport aircraft overhead. I immediately terminated acrobatic maneuvers. I realized that I had not cleared the area for traffic due to the combination of my spur of the moment decision to do acrobatics and my apprehension about doing acrobatics for the first time in several months. Also, I failed to confirm that I was clear of the airway, because I thought that I was familiar with the airways in that area.

Title: PVT PLT OF AN EXPERIMENTAL RV3 INADVERTENTLY PERFORMED AEROBATICS ON AN AIRWAY RESULTING IN CONFLICTION WITH AN ACR ACFT.

Narrative: I HAD PLANNED TO PRACTICE ACROBATICS. I FOUND THAT THERE WAS LIGHT TURB AT THE PRACTICE AREA, SO I DECIDED NOT TO DO ACROBATICS BECAUSE I HADN'T DONE ANY FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, AND I DIDN'T FEEL CONFIDENT ABOUT DEALING WITH THE ADDED COMPLICATION OF TURB. I DECIDED TO FLY TO 1Q4 TO PRACTICE LNDGS INSTEAD. ON MY WAY TO 1Q4, I FOUND SMOOTH AIR AT 7000 FT. I THOUGHT I WAS IN A SAFE AREA, SO I DID 2 LOOPS. AFTER THE SECOND LOOP I SAW AN AIR TRANSPORT ACFT OVERHEAD. I IMMEDIATELY TERMINATED ACROBATIC MANEUVERS. I REALIZED THAT I HAD NOT CLRED THE AREA FOR TFC DUE TO THE COMBINATION OF MY SPUR OF THE MOMENT DECISION TO DO ACROBATICS AND MY APPREHENSION ABOUT DOING ACROBATICS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SEVERAL MONTHS. ALSO, I FAILED TO CONFIRM THAT I WAS CLR OF THE AIRWAY, BECAUSE I THOUGHT THAT I WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE AIRWAYS IN THAT AREA.
