Narrative:

On the night of dec/xa/99 at XA10, flight was en route from iad. During cruise from V377 to har, while reviewing FMS holding procedures, our FMS box changed routing with no warning. The captain and I noticed the discrepancy and changed heading to reintercept the course. The captain then queried ZNY to inform them of the deviation. Center had us proceed direct har VOR and then proceed on course. To prevent future occurrences, we need to change from LNAV to VOR mode before selecting/reviewing other pages/features on FMS box.
