Air carrier X was at FL370 eastbound to ord. Air carrier Y was at FL350 wbound. 2 aircraft both at FL310 were north of air carrier Y heading southwest. Descended the air carrier X to FL330 thinking the air carrier Y was at FL310. Answered 2 planes, shipped 2 more, then realized what I did. Tried to stop air carrier X at FL360. He reported seeing the traffic descended air carrier X through air carrier Y. Air carrier X was at FL370. Air carrier X was at FL350. Tried to stop air carrier X at FL360. Air carrier X reported seeing the traffic.

Title: WHILE ATTEMPTING TO RESOLVE POTENTIAL CONFLICT, ARTCC CTLR CAUSES LOSS OF SEPARATION. FURTHER AND HURRIED ATTEMPTS TO RESCUE THE INCIDENT WITH MULTIPLE CLRNC CHANGES IS AIDED BY ACR FLT RPTING INTRUDER CRAFTS VISUALLY AND MAINTAINING SEPARATION.

TRIED TO STOP ACR X AT FL360. ACR X RPTED SEEING THE TFC.
