Narrative:

At departure time we received a loading form indicating a human organ was being loaded in the cargo compartment. Checked operations manual and found maximum dry ice in the cabin is 20 pounds or 4.4 pounds per passenger. Did not think per passenger requirement applied to this situation and therefore I asked the cargo personnel to bring the organ to the cabin so we could make sure it got expeditious handling in dallas. After departure, we realized that we had exceeded the dry ice limitation as stated in the aircraft operating manual. It calls for a maximum per package of 4 pounds. The package contained 5 pounds of dry ice. Supplemental information from acn 456003: ground crew advised us we were transporting a human organ packed in dry ice loaded in the cargo compartment. We checked operations manual and decided as long as the total dry ice was not over 20 pounds we could transport organ in cabin to facilitate a quicker xfer on arrival. Organ was packed in 5 pounds of dry ice. In-flight, we checked aircraft operating manual. It states a single package cannot exceed 4 pounds of dry ice with a cabin total of 20 pounds. This conflicts somewhat with flight operations manual which states each passenger can carry 4.4 pounds and aircraft total of 20 pounds.

Title: F100 CREW ACCEPTS CARGO IN CABIN WITH EXCESS DRY ICE.

Narrative: AT DEP TIME WE RECEIVED A LOADING FORM INDICATING A HUMAN ORGAN WAS BEING LOADED IN THE CARGO COMPARTMENT. CHKED OPS MANUAL AND FOUND MAX DRY ICE IN THE CABIN IS 20 LBS OR 4.4 LBS PER PAX. DID NOT THINK PER PAX REQUIREMENT APPLIED TO THIS SIT AND THEREFORE I ASKED THE CARGO PERSONNEL TO BRING THE ORGAN TO THE CABIN SO WE COULD MAKE SURE IT GOT EXPEDITIOUS HANDLING IN DALLAS. AFTER DEP, WE REALIZED THAT WE HAD EXCEEDED THE DRY ICE LIMITATION AS STATED IN THE ACFT OPERATING MANUAL. IT CALLS FOR A MAX PER PACKAGE OF 4 LBS. THE PACKAGE CONTAINED 5 LBS OF DRY ICE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 456003: GND CREW ADVISED US WE WERE TRANSPORTING A HUMAN ORGAN PACKED IN DRY ICE LOADED IN THE CARGO COMPARTMENT. WE CHKED OPS MANUAL AND DECIDED AS LONG AS THE TOTAL DRY ICE WAS NOT OVER 20 LBS WE COULD TRANSPORT ORGAN IN CABIN TO FACILITATE A QUICKER XFER ON ARR. ORGAN WAS PACKED IN 5 LBS OF DRY ICE. INFLT, WE CHKED ACFT OPERATING MANUAL. IT STATES A SINGLE PACKAGE CANNOT EXCEED 4 LBS OF DRY ICE WITH A CABIN TOTAL OF 20 LBS. THIS CONFLICTS SOMEWHAT WITH FLT OPS MANUAL WHICH STATES EACH PAX CAN CARRY 4.4 LBS AND ACFT TOTAL OF 20 LBS.
