Narrative:

I mistakenly used aircraft instrumentation for the start-up and break-in of overhauled aircraft engines. The aircraft engines were overhauled, but the gauges were not calibrated. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that several cessna light twin aircraft with newly overhauled engines were started and run for break-in without the aircraft engine instruments being calibrated. The reporter said it was a manufacturer's requirement that the aircraft engine instruments be calibrated before engine start. The reporter stated the FAA has contacted the reporter.
