Narrative:

Everything was normal until right engine start, the N1 stabilized at 36.7 indicating a hung start. At that time we aborted the start. All itt limits were complied with. We then started the time to comply with right start cool-down limitations. While we were waiting for the right starter to cool, we attempted a left engine start which resulted in a normal start. After the appropriate time we attempted a xstart to the right engine which resulted in a normal start. After completing the 'before takeoff to the line' checklist, we contacted ground for taxi and went about 100 yards from the gate when we noticed smoke in the cockpit. We contacted ground and returned to the gate requesting crash fire rescue equipment. At the gate we expeditiously unloaded the passenger through the main cabin door and no passenger were injured. The end result was determined by maintenance who determined that during the hung start the air flow was insufficient to seal the engine case allowing oil to enter the environmental system where it was burned and entered the cabin.

Title: A BEECH 1900 FLC HAD SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT WHILE TAXIING AT MLI.

Narrative: EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL UNTIL R ENG START, THE N1 STABILIZED AT 36.7 INDICATING A HUNG START. AT THAT TIME WE ABORTED THE START. ALL ITT LIMITS WERE COMPLIED WITH. WE THEN STARTED THE TIME TO COMPLY WITH R START COOL-DOWN LIMITATIONS. WHILE WE WERE WAITING FOR THE R STARTER TO COOL, WE ATTEMPTED A L ENG START WHICH RESULTED IN A NORMAL START. AFTER THE APPROPRIATE TIME WE ATTEMPTED A XSTART TO THE R ENG WHICH RESULTED IN A NORMAL START. AFTER COMPLETING THE 'BEFORE TKOF TO THE LINE' CHKLIST, WE CONTACTED GND FOR TAXI AND WENT ABOUT 100 YARDS FROM THE GATE WHEN WE NOTICED SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT. WE CONTACTED GND AND RETURNED TO THE GATE REQUESTING CFR. AT THE GATE WE EXPEDITIOUSLY UNLOADED THE PAX THROUGH THE MAIN CABIN DOOR AND NO PAX WERE INJURED. THE END RESULT WAS DETERMINED BY MAINT WHO DETERMINED THAT DURING THE HUNG START THE AIR FLOW WAS INSUFFICIENT TO SEAL THE ENG CASE ALLOWING OIL TO ENTER THE ENVIRONMENTAL SYS WHERE IT WAS BURNED AND ENTERED THE CABIN.
