Narrative:

After 1 hour 30 min duration of flight, during which numerous 'left engine low fuel pressure' warnings were received, the left engine spooled down to 13% N2 from flight idle and could not be restarted. Events leading to problem: normal startup, taxi, takeoff, departure and early climb were experienced. From FL265 to cruise at FL350 the left engine low fuel pressure annunciation was repeatedly displayed for short periods along with a master caution annunciation. This continued throughout the remainder of the flight. At the bottom of initial descent at 11000 ft at qball intersection, left engine response was considerably delayed behind throttle commands. After further descent to 6000 ft in a 30 degree left banking turn, the left engine failed. The appropriate checklists were computed and landing was accomplished without incident. No IFR conditions were encountered during the flight, no icing was experienced. An emergency was declared due to company and FAA policy. The remainder of the approach and landing were accomplished without incident.

Title: MD83 HAS FUEL PRESSURE PROBS AND ULTIMATELY THE ENG FAILS.

Narrative: AFTER 1 HR 30 MIN DURATION OF FLT, DURING WHICH NUMEROUS 'L ENG LOW FUEL PRESSURE' WARNINGS WERE RECEIVED, THE L ENG SPOOLED DOWN TO 13% N2 FROM FLT IDLE AND COULD NOT BE RESTARTED. EVENTS LEADING TO PROB: NORMAL STARTUP, TAXI, TKOF, DEP AND EARLY CLB WERE EXPERIENCED. FROM FL265 TO CRUISE AT FL350 THE L ENG LOW FUEL PRESSURE ANNUNCIATION WAS REPEATEDLY DISPLAYED FOR SHORT PERIODS ALONG WITH A MASTER CAUTION ANNUNCIATION. THIS CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT. AT THE BOTTOM OF INITIAL DSCNT AT 11000 FT AT QBALL INTXN, L ENG RESPONSE WAS CONSIDERABLY DELAYED BEHIND THROTTLE COMMANDS. AFTER FURTHER DSCNT TO 6000 FT IN A 30 DEG L BANKING TURN, THE L ENG FAILED. THE APPROPRIATE CHKLISTS WERE COMPUTED AND LNDG WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITHOUT INCIDENT. NO IFR CONDITIONS WERE ENCOUNTERED DURING THE FLT, NO ICING WAS EXPERIENCED. AN EMER WAS DECLARED DUE TO COMPANY AND FAA POLICY. THE REMAINDER OF THE APCH AND LNDG WERE ACCOMPLISHED WITHOUT INCIDENT.
