Narrative:

Descending through our assigned altitude of FL280, autoplt did not level off and the descent continued until the captain disengaged the autoplt and manually initiated a climb (lowest altitude reached was FL271). Upon reaching FL280 (assigned altitude), autoplt was engaged again, and commanded/initiated a descent unexpectedly. This time the descent was manually stopped by the captain at FL275 and the aircraft was returned to FL280. Autoplt was engaged again and performed normally thereafter. No traffic conflict occurred nor was reported.
