Narrative:

ATC facility: ord departure control. Location: right turn to 180 degrees off of runway 22L. Cleared and briefed ord 1 departure including 4000 ft at or above 8 DME altitude restr. Departure runway 22L at aircraft weight of 147000 pounds, cleared to turn to 180 degree heading. Takeoff and climb out normal for heavy S80. 1/2 rate on vvi gave us vvi command of 900 ft. Passing 3500 ft and 7 DME ord departure control informed us that we have to be at 4000 ft at 8 DME for departing traffic off of midway -- he did not sound very happy. No targets on TCASII. I have never had a problem with that altitude restr in the S80. The combo of no headwind, heavy aircraft and climbing turn cut it too close which didn't make it. I will monitor climb much closer through the climb altitude especially heavy weight and give ord departure control a heads up that we may not make altitude during the climb. Supplemental information from acn 451570: heavy aircraft with south flow makes it a close call on the altitudes. We should have let departure know our performance limitations.

Title: A SUPER MD80 FLC DID NOT COMPLY WITH A XING RESTR ON DEP FROM ORD.

Narrative: ATC FACILITY: ORD DEP CTL. LOCATION: R TURN TO 180 DEGS OFF OF RWY 22L. CLRED AND BRIEFED ORD 1 DEP INCLUDING 4000 FT AT OR ABOVE 8 DME ALT RESTR. DEP RWY 22L AT ACFT WT OF 147000 LBS, CLRED TO TURN TO 180 DEG HDG. TKOF AND CLBOUT NORMAL FOR HVY S80. 1/2 RATE ON VVI GAVE US VVI COMMAND OF 900 FT. PASSING 3500 FT AND 7 DME ORD DEP CTL INFORMED US THAT WE HAVE TO BE AT 4000 FT AT 8 DME FOR DEPARTING TFC OFF OF MIDWAY -- HE DID NOT SOUND VERY HAPPY. NO TARGETS ON TCASII. I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROB WITH THAT ALT RESTR IN THE S80. THE COMBO OF NO HEADWIND, HVY ACFT AND CLBING TURN CUT IT TOO CLOSE WHICH DIDN'T MAKE IT. I WILL MONITOR CLB MUCH CLOSER THROUGH THE CLB ALT ESPECIALLY HVY WT AND GIVE ORD DEP CTL A HEADS UP THAT WE MAY NOT MAKE ALT DURING THE CLB. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 451570: HVY ACFT WITH S FLOW MAKES IT A CLOSE CALL ON THE ALTS. WE SHOULD HAVE LET DEP KNOW OUR PERFORMANCE LIMITATIONS.
