Narrative:

I had a problem related to sun glare while landing into a sunset. Around XA00 local time, I landed on runway 27 at cdw. I touched down with 30 degrees of flaps. While holding the nosewheel off the runway, the sun glare made the runway appear shorter in length than it actually was. Fearing the worst, I lowered the nosewheel to the runway and braked as hard as possible. (Hard braking resulted in a flat tire.) lowering the nosewheel reduced the amount of glare. Immediately I saw that there was sufficient runway in front of me for the landing and that I had applied too much brake to stop the aircraft. I continued to decelerate and tried to exit the runway at taxiway B. I managed taxi as far as the runway holding position markings. I reported to the ground controller that the aircraft had a flat tire. He confirmed that the right main tire appeared flat and asked me to taxi across the holding position markings. I told him that I was unable to taxi any farther. He said that he was sending airports operations. ATC then closed runway 27. To prevent this from happening, I will request runway 22 while landing late in the day at cdw. If this runway is not available, I will land at another airport in the area.

Title: CESSNA PLT BRAKES HARD ENOUGH TO BLOW A TIRE THINKING THE RWY END IS NEAR BECAUSE OF RESTR VISIBILITY DUE TO SETTING SUN.

Narrative: I HAD A PROB RELATED TO SUN GLARE WHILE LNDG INTO A SUNSET. AROUND XA00 LCL TIME, I LANDED ON RWY 27 AT CDW. I TOUCHED DOWN WITH 30 DEGS OF FLAPS. WHILE HOLDING THE NOSEWHEEL OFF THE RWY, THE SUN GLARE MADE THE RWY APPEAR SHORTER IN LENGTH THAN IT ACTUALLY WAS. FEARING THE WORST, I LOWERED THE NOSEWHEEL TO THE RWY AND BRAKED AS HARD AS POSSIBLE. (HARD BRAKING RESULTED IN A FLAT TIRE.) LOWERING THE NOSEWHEEL REDUCED THE AMOUNT OF GLARE. IMMEDIATELY I SAW THAT THERE WAS SUFFICIENT RWY IN FRONT OF ME FOR THE LNDG AND THAT I HAD APPLIED TOO MUCH BRAKE TO STOP THE ACFT. I CONTINUED TO DECELERATE AND TRIED TO EXIT THE RWY AT TXWY B. I MANAGED TAXI AS FAR AS THE RWY HOLDING POS MARKINGS. I RPTED TO THE GND CTLR THAT THE ACFT HAD A FLAT TIRE. HE CONFIRMED THAT THE R MAIN TIRE APPEARED FLAT AND ASKED ME TO TAXI ACROSS THE HOLDING POS MARKINGS. I TOLD HIM THAT I WAS UNABLE TO TAXI ANY FARTHER. HE SAID THAT HE WAS SENDING ARPTS OPS. ATC THEN CLOSED RWY 27. TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING, I WILL REQUEST RWY 22 WHILE LNDG LATE IN THE DAY AT CDW. IF THIS RWY IS NOT AVAILABLE, I WILL LAND AT ANOTHER ARPT IN THE AREA.
