Narrative:
I had an alternator failure, but the battery was strong enough that there were no problems, but I elected to land no flaps. The controller (tower) was asking several aircraft about the smoke to the northeast from which I had just come. The tower instructed me to hold short of taxiway a, the parallel taxiway, and to contact ground. As I cleared, I looked for the smoke and contacted ground. He said taxi to parking. I kept on rolling, and someone else acknowledged the call! Then the controller asked who was on the taxiway! I stopped, now 1/2 way on taxiway a and idented myself. He was a little gruff and told me to taxi to parking. There was no conflict. It was an interesting problem. I was busy and distraction, and the controller seemed to answer me. I wonder if my weakened battery reduced my transmit power?
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: C182 LANDS UNEVENTFULLY WITH INOP ALTERNATOR AND TAXIES WITHOUT PROPER CLRNC ONTO A TXWY AT ADS.
Narrative: I HAD AN ALTERNATOR FAILURE, BUT THE BATTERY WAS STRONG ENOUGH THAT THERE WERE NO PROBS, BUT I ELECTED TO LAND NO FLAPS. THE CTLR (TWR) WAS ASKING SEVERAL ACFT ABOUT THE SMOKE TO THE NE FROM WHICH I HAD JUST COME. THE TWR INSTRUCTED ME TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY A, THE PARALLEL TXWY, AND TO CONTACT GND. AS I CLRED, I LOOKED FOR THE SMOKE AND CONTACTED GND. HE SAID TAXI TO PARKING. I KEPT ON ROLLING, AND SOMEONE ELSE ACKNOWLEDGED THE CALL! THEN THE CTLR ASKED WHO WAS ON THE TXWY! I STOPPED, NOW 1/2 WAY ON TXWY A AND IDENTED MYSELF. HE WAS A LITTLE GRUFF AND TOLD ME TO TAXI TO PARKING. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT. IT WAS AN INTERESTING PROB. I WAS BUSY AND DISTR, AND THE CTLR SEEMED TO ANSWER ME. I WONDER IF MY WEAKENED BATTERY REDUCED MY XMIT PWR?
