Narrative:

After landing in dothan, al (dhn), I gave the fueler a fuel slip requesting 2600 pounds of fuel. He gave me back a fuel slip indicating that he had placed 2600 pounds on the aircraft. I accomplished the before start checklist that has me verify 2600 pounds on the fuel gauges, and I did read 2600 on the gauges. About 30 mins after departing dhn en route to mem, we noticed that the fuel gauges only read 800 pounds of fuel on board. This was not adequate for the rest of our flight. We notified our dispatch, and diverted to mgm. We landed in mgm without incident. We confirmed at mgm that only 600 pounds of fuel remained on the aircraft. The gauges must have been reading higher than actual when we were fueled in dhn.

Narrative: AFTER LNDG IN DOTHAN, AL (DHN), I GAVE THE FUELER A FUEL SLIP REQUESTING 2600 LBS OF FUEL. HE GAVE ME BACK A FUEL SLIP INDICATING THAT HE HAD PLACED 2600 LBS ON THE ACFT. I ACCOMPLISHED THE BEFORE START CHKLIST THAT HAS ME VERIFY 2600 LBS ON THE FUEL GAUGES, AND I DID READ 2600 ON THE GAUGES. ABOUT 30 MINS AFTER DEPARTING DHN ENRTE TO MEM, WE NOTICED THAT THE FUEL GAUGES ONLY READ 800 LBS OF FUEL ON BOARD. THIS WAS NOT ADEQUATE FOR THE REST OF OUR FLT. WE NOTIFIED OUR DISPATCH, AND DIVERTED TO MGM. WE LANDED IN MGM WITHOUT INCIDENT. WE CONFIRMED AT MGM THAT ONLY 600 LBS OF FUEL REMAINED ON THE ACFT. THE GAUGES MUST HAVE BEEN READING HIGHER THAN ACTUAL WHEN WE WERE FUELED IN DHN.
