Narrative:

Departing from rhv to sjc, I was cleared to land on runway 30R, but I requested runway 29. But they gave me runway 30R again and I was too close to turn onto final for runway 30R. So I descended below the aircraft on final which I had in sight and then landed on runway 29. Factors: unfamiliar airport. I would have liked to cross over the airport to enter the pattern for runway 29, however, maybe the ceiling was too low for the tower to give that instruction. (English is second language.)
