Narrative:

Anc-sea. Normal: pushback, engine start, taxi-out, climb to cruise. During climb I (as captain) overheard the flight attendants giving a pre-departure briefing to the passenger. All normal calls were made for attendants 'to be seated.' the flight attendant at position 'a' closed the cockpit door. Position 'a' flight attendant failed to tell us (flight deck) that the briefing/everyone was down and seated. I have learned that I, as captain, cannot assume them closing the cockpit door means they (attendants) are ready for departure.
