Narrative:

Cleared for takeoff on runway 32L at ord with a turn to 330 degrees after takeoff. Heading bug was incorrectly set to 030 degrees. Turning north, turn was stopped and turn back to 330 degrees was commenced just prior to tower calling to correct our turn. No conflict was noted. ACARS printer was inoperative and with runway change workload was increased. As captain, I allowed pretkof checks to be rushed and potentially dangerous error resulted.

Title: CAPT OF A B737-800 TURNED WRONG WAY AFTER TKOF DUE TO MISPROGRAMMING THE FMC WITH THE WRONG HDG. THE CAPT HAD STARTED THE CORRECTION JUST BEFORE DEP CTLR ADVISED OF THE ERROR.
