Narrative:

Captain lined up for takeoff on right edge of runway, thinking the runway edge lights were centerline lights. The captain was flying this leg, initiated takeoff while I (first officer) was completing the checklist, asked me to set takeoff thrust and we immediately heard a loud bang. I called for abort. Captain aborted and we taxied back to the gate. The loud bang was the B737 running over a taxiway sign, then numerous lights. We never got above 40 KTS on speed. Only damage to plane was to the right main tires. The captain forgot to turn on lights and rushed the takeoff. My eyes were in the cockpit accomplishing the checklist and setting power.
