Narrative:
I issued a clearance to aircraft Z to FL330. 2 aircraft responded. I verified aircraft Z's clearance and attempted, unsuccessfully, to determine who the other aircraft was. Shortly thereafter conflict alert activated between aircraft X and aircraft Y. Aircraft Y at FL310, aircraft X assigned FL290, mode C showing FL295. I reclred aircraft X back to FL290. Aircraft X was the other aircraft but he didn't respond to my original query about taking a clearance.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACFT X TOOK A CLB CLRNC MEANT FOR ACFT Z. THIS RESULTED IN A LOSS OF SEPARATION WITH ACFT X.
Narrative: I ISSUED A CLRNC TO ACFT Z TO FL330. 2 ACFT RESPONDED. I VERIFIED ACFT Z'S CLRNC AND ATTEMPTED, UNSUCCESSFULLY, TO DETERMINE WHO THE OTHER ACFT WAS. SHORTLY THEREAFTER CONFLICT ALERT ACTIVATED BTWN ACFT X AND ACFT Y. ACFT Y AT FL310, ACFT X ASSIGNED FL290, MODE C SHOWING FL295. I RECLRED ACFT X BACK TO FL290. ACFT X WAS THE OTHER ACFT BUT HE DIDN'T RESPOND TO MY ORIGINAL QUERY ABOUT TAKING A CLRNC.
