Narrative:

After takeoff from dfw, approximately 10 mins out I heard a horrendous loud noise come from the engine, as one of the engines failed. The B757 aircraft began to lose power. The captain came over the PA system and stated that everything was under control and that we will be returning to the gate. There didn't seem to be anything that could have prevented the incident from occurring or any way to have prevented the situation. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: multiple report on 'engine blowout,' and the primary reporter stated that the reports of an explosion and fire were later told to them by passenger seated over the wing and by witnesses on the ground. The 2 rptrs didn't see the fire, but certainly felt the explosion. The plane was taken OTS. After a 3 hour delay, they got on another airplane and continued on to costa rica. When the passenger reboarded, they seemed quite relieved to see the same crew members: 'they felt a certain type of bonding with the crew.' supplemental information from acn 446750: the aircraft lost an engine (right one) during takeoff. An explosion and fire. As a result we had to return and land. No emergency evacuate/evacuation was necessary.

Narrative: AFTER TKOF FROM DFW, APPROX 10 MINS OUT I HEARD A HORRENDOUS LOUD NOISE COME FROM THE ENG, AS ONE OF THE ENGS FAILED. THE B757 ACFT BEGAN TO LOSE PWR. THE CAPT CAME OVER THE PA SYS AND STATED THAT EVERYTHING WAS UNDER CTL AND THAT WE WILL BE RETURNING TO THE GATE. THERE DIDN'T SEEM TO BE ANYTHING THAT COULD HAVE PREVENTED THE INCIDENT FROM OCCURRING OR ANY WAY TO HAVE PREVENTED THE SIT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: MULTIPLE RPT ON 'ENG BLOWOUT,' AND THE PRIMARY RPTR STATED THAT THE RPTS OF AN EXPLOSION AND FIRE WERE LATER TOLD TO THEM BY PAX SEATED OVER THE WING AND BY WITNESSES ON THE GND. THE 2 RPTRS DIDN'T SEE THE FIRE, BUT CERTAINLY FELT THE EXPLOSION. THE PLANE WAS TAKEN OTS. AFTER A 3 HR DELAY, THEY GOT ON ANOTHER AIRPLANE AND CONTINUED ON TO COSTA RICA. WHEN THE PAX REBOARDED, THEY SEEMED QUITE RELIEVED TO SEE THE SAME CREW MEMBERS: 'THEY FELT A CERTAIN TYPE OF BONDING WITH THE CREW.' SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 446750: THE ACFT LOST AN ENG (R ONE) DURING TKOF. AN EXPLOSION AND FIRE. AS A RESULT WE HAD TO RETURN AND LAND. NO EMER EVAC WAS NECESSARY.
