Narrative:

Item 31 log page wvxvz, forward galley garbage container leaking. Sign-off in log is deferred per cabin logbook xy-xyz, authority/authorized #xxvux. Text read deferred forward galley trash container inoperative per cabin logbook. Container blocked closed, entered in maintenance information computer. The trash container was not blocked closed so we called maintenance to come do that. I opened the cabin logbook to read about the item and there was no xy-xyz. The first air traffic area number in the cabin logbook starts with #xz and goes up from there. I read the general section of the cabin logbook to see if it offered guidance on why this deferred did not need a placard in the maintenance log since it was deferred and only had the item in the maintenance information computer sheet which is an information only, not required to be correct type of sheet. Nothing. I looked in the flight manual part 1 for guidance - there is no mention of the cabin logbook or its reporting/recording requirements. The mechanic said that if it had an authority/authorized number from technician, then everything is okay. I would like to see the general section of the cabin logbook expanded to explain, clearly, the requirements for sign off, placarding, etc. And in addition, some mention in the flight manual part 1 about the cabin logbook.
