Narrative:

Aircraft had a history of overtemps (4 or 5) on takeoff. On our takeoff, right engine egt went to 897 and red right after rotation. First officer immediately pulled the engine back to put egt back into normal band. Upon consultation with dispatch and maintenance tech, we continued to ord and wrote up problem. When we got to gate, the lead technician on the aircraft wrote up the corrective action as exceedance within limits -- ok for service. When I told him the only reason the temperature did not go higher was because my sharp first officer pulled the engine back, he replied that is what you are there for. I explained that is how the engine did not get hotter, not to continue with a known problem. I then called maintenance technician and he said he wanted to change the engine, but engineering was trying to keep the engines on the wing. He said he would pull up the history and go back to engineering and stay on the line. 2 mins later he came back and said the aircraft was OTS. The aircraft was then ferried to dfw and today, the engine was changed. My problem is, why did the ord maintenance technician say the engine was ok, but the report for the aircraft today said it over overtemped by 115 degrees? Also, the aircraft was supposed to go to sna, and with that departure, the aircraft was in a precarious situation if allowed to continue. I also think the maintenance technician comment about that is what I am there for is reckless.

Title: A B757-200 WITH CHRONIC HISTORY OF #2 ENG HIGH EXHAUST GAS TEMP AND OVERTEMP ON TKOF WAS TAKEN OTS AND ENG REPLACED DUE TO CAPT'S REFUSAL TO OPERATE ACFT.

Narrative: ACFT HAD A HISTORY OF OVERTEMPS (4 OR 5) ON TKOF. ON OUR TKOF, R ENG EGT WENT TO 897 AND RED RIGHT AFTER ROTATION. FO IMMEDIATELY PULLED THE ENG BACK TO PUT EGT BACK INTO NORMAL BAND. UPON CONSULTATION WITH DISPATCH AND MAINT TECH, WE CONTINUED TO ORD AND WROTE UP PROB. WHEN WE GOT TO GATE, THE LEAD TECHNICIAN ON THE ACFT WROTE UP THE CORRECTIVE ACTION AS EXCEEDANCE WITHIN LIMITS -- OK FOR SVC. THE ACFT WAS THEN FERRIED TO DFW AND TODAY, THE ENG WAS CHANGED. MY PROB IS, WHY DID THE ORD MAINT TECHNICIAN SAY THE ENG WAS OK, BUT THE RPT FOR THE ACFT TODAY SAID IT OVER OVERTEMPED BY 115 DEGS? ALSO, THE ACFT WAS SUPPOSED TO GO TO SNA, AND WITH THAT DEP, THE ACFT WAS IN A PRECARIOUS SIT IF ALLOWED TO CONTINUE. I ALSO THINK THE MAINT TECHNICIAN COMMENT ABOUT THAT IS WHAT I AM THERE FOR IS RECKLESS.
