Narrative:
I am captain on a DC8. We left fll, flew to tol with a stop in bna. We arrived in tol. I checked WX and filed a flight plan to mcy. Flight time was 1 hour 10 mins. Upon arriving at mcy, ground fog was present. I flew 3 NDB approachs, then asked chicago for vectors to laf. As I flew south, the WX was clear and I had an airport in sight, so I canceled IFR. I entered a downwind for runway 36 and flew a normal traffic pattern. On short final, I flew into some light ground fog, causing me to overshoot the landing and to touch down long. With no room to go around, I tried to stop, but ran off the end. This caused damage to both propellers, engines, nose and all landing gear. The cause of the accident was trying to make a landing when I should have made a go around!

I ENTERED A DOWNWIND FOR RWY 36 AND FLEW A NORMAL TFC PATTERN. ON SHORT FINAL, I FLEW INTO SOME LIGHT GND FOG, CAUSING ME TO OVERSHOOT THE LNDG AND TO TOUCH DOWN LONG. WITH NO ROOM TO GO AROUND, I TRIED TO STOP, BUT RAN OFF THE END. THIS CAUSED DAMAGE TO BOTH PROPS, ENGS, NOSE AND ALL LNDG GEAR. THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT WAS TRYING TO MAKE A LNDG WHEN I SHOULD HAVE MADE A GAR!
