During descent FL280, left engine oil quantity went to zero and oil pressure went to zero. Precautionary engine shutdown and emergency declared. Diverted to sju and landed uneventfully. Landing weight 197300 pounds. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the engine was a rolls royce RB211-535e4 and the failure was the N3 tower shaft housing was cracked. The reporter said the oil loss was almost instantaneous and the engine was immediately shut down.

Title: A B757-200 IN DSCNT AT FL280 DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO #1 ENG LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE AND QUANTITY CAUSED BY N3 TOWER SHAFT HOUSING CRACKED.

Narrative: DURING DSCNT FL280, L ENG OIL QUANTITY WENT TO ZERO AND OIL PRESSURE WENT TO ZERO. PRECAUTIONARY ENG SHUTDOWN AND EMER DECLARED. DIVERTED TO SJU AND LANDED UNEVENTFULLY. LNDG WT 197300 LBS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE ENG WAS A ROLLS ROYCE RB211-535E4 AND THE FAILURE WAS THE N3 TOWER SHAFT HOUSING WAS CRACKED. THE RPTR SAID THE OIL LOSS WAS ALMOST INSTANTANEOUS AND THE ENG WAS IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN.
