En route from hpn to bos. While passing through 12900 ft for 13000 ft, the first officer asked the captain if we were to level at 12000 ft. The captain immediately asked ATC to verify the assigned altitude of 12000 ft or 13000 ft. ATC's reply was '13000 ft is fine.' the captain asked if there was a problem. ATC reported 'no.'

Narrative: ENRTE FROM HPN TO BOS. WHILE PASSING THROUGH 12900 FT FOR 13000 FT, THE FO ASKED THE CAPT IF WE WERE TO LEVEL AT 12000 FT. THE CAPT IMMEDIATELY ASKED ATC TO VERIFY THE ASSIGNED ALT OF 12000 FT OR 13000 FT. ATC'S REPLY WAS '13000 FT IS FINE.' THE CAPT ASKED IF THERE WAS A PROB. ATC RPTED 'NO.'
