Narrative:

Runway 16 SID hpn calls for turn after takeoff. To separate us from previous cherokee on same route, local cleared us for takeoff runway heading. Upon switching to departure, we were questioned why we did not turn. We advised local, gave us runway heading. Departure said he would call hpn local. Never heard anything further, flight proceeded normally. Supplemental information from acn 442983: after the handoff to new york departure we were questioned by the controller of our heading. I responded runway heading assigned by the tower. The controller said to turn right to 320 degrees and he would check on that with white plains tower.
