Narrative:

We were given ont prado departure and told by socal departure to climb unrestr to 7000 ft, expedite climb to 7000 ft. During climb on 130 degree radial, 1 DME southeast of pdz VOR, out of approximately 5700 ft, first officer observed beechcraft bonanza at approximately 6500 ft wbound. We immediately shallowed out climb aggressively and observed bonanza pass from left to right -- estimate his altitude 6500 ft, horizontal separation estimated 500 ft. TCASII not installed on our aircraft (cargo exempt), was definitely a contributing factor in degradation of safety. Supplemental information from acn 442215: ATC gave no traffic call and ignored captain's query regarding the traffic.
