Narrative:

En route from atl-dfw, 40 mi southwest of bhm declared an emergency. Engine shut down with possible onboard fire. We got length of runway at bhm and started vector to bhm. When I started coordination with low side I found out the long runway at bhm closed. We then turned aircraft to mgm and he landed safely. 'There was not any information on sector about runway closure at bhm. R-side, d-side knew nothing about it.' this could have resulted in a catastrophe. We were lucky.
